They are three Black women who met during their undergraduate studies, and their shared experiences fueled a deep passion for advocating and amplifying the voices of Black men and women in every capacity they could. Feeling the need to extend this passion to a broader audience, they founded Beauty Braids & Beyond.

Beauty Braids & Beyond is the platform they created to celebrate and share their love for Black beauty. With a commitment to their community, they built a brand and space dedicated to addressing the unique hair, skin, and beauty needs that are deeply intertwined with their identity. They believe their company will fill a significant gap in the current beauty industry market.

As a Cultural Activist, she is passionate about preserving Pan-Africanism within the diaspora. Guided by the spirit of Ubuntu (I am because we are) as a core lifestyle principle, her goal is to empower future generations through cultural dance, storytelling, and Ankara fashion.



Manock Lual

Former Basketballer

BIO

Manock Lual is a former pro-basketball player who came to Canada in 1992 as a refugee from South Sudan. He grew up in the nation’s capital city of Ottawa, in the Overbrook neighbourhood, which houses many newcomers. Manock Lual’s basketball talent helped him to earn a scholarship, and he graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island in 2012.

In 2017, Coach Manock founded Prezdential, a non-profit that is dedicated to bridging the gap faced by disadvantaged youth in Ottawa, and particularly racialized youth living in low-income communities. Mr. Lual offers free basketball and life skills programming strengthened by partnerships with the Boys and Girls Club, Ottawa Community Foundation and local community associations and resource centres.
