Ed Matwawana is the Executive Director of the Michaëlle Jean Foundation, a Canadian organization that champions culture, education, innovation, and entrepreneurship among youth. Based in Ottawa, he has led national initiatives such as the National Black Canadians Summit, aligned with the UN’s International Decade for People of African Descent. For over two decades, Ed has worked as a community transformation agent, building programs in youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, arts, education, reintegration, and economic development across Canada and abroad. He has served on multiple boards including Mindtrust Youth Development, CESOC, and the International Black Economic Forum, and contributes to McGill University’s Faculty of Education Advisory Board. Fluent in English, French, and two Bantu languages, with working knowledge of Portuguese, Ed brings a global perspective to local challenges.

Deborah Allotey is the Ecosystem Mapping Project Coordinator at the Black Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Map at the Sprott School of Business, Carleton University, and serves as Board Secretary at Restore International Foundation. A multilingual professional fluent in Arabic, English, French, and Spanish, Deborah’s career spans teaching, research, marketing, and administration. Her expertise bridges both people and technology, with advanced skills in web design, coding, and digital engagement. Known for leading cross-functional teams and fostering collaboration, she has developed and delivered initiatives that expand brand visibility, strengthen community engagement, and advance organizational missions. With her background in leadership and facilitation, Deborah is passionate about creating opportunities where diverse voices can shape meaningful change.

Mohamed Sofa is the Executive Director of Britannia Woods Community House, where he leads a team dedicated to delivering impactful initiatives for diverse communities. With more than 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector, Mohamed has developed and implemented programs that address complex social needs while strengthening community resilience. His expertise in community development, board governance, and partnership building has enabled him to foster lasting collaborations with local organizations and stakeholders. Mohamed is passionate about creating positive change and empowering individuals and families to thrive.

Benazir Tom Erdimi is a Program Officer at the Michaëlle Jean Foundation and the founder of The People of Tomorrow, an organization that celebrates youth excellence and amplifies young voices. Originally from Chad, she is entering her third year at the University of Ottawa, studying Conflict Studies and Human Rights with a minor in Civil Law. Passionate about law and human rights, Benazir is pursuing her goal of becoming a human rights lawyer. She is deeply community-oriented, committed to creating opportunities for youth to express themselves, connect, and thrive.

Shukri Hilowle is an experienced Paralegal with a strong background in personal injury, civil litigation, immigration, and real estate. She has worked extensively across small claims, tribunals, contracts, wills, and estates, bringing both legal expertise and practical problem-solving skills to her clients and community. Beyond her legal practice, Shukri is passionate about access to justice and helping individuals navigate complex systems with clarity and confidence. Suzanne Obiorah is the Chief Executive Officer of Somerset West Community Health Centre, where she leads efforts to advance health equity and community well-being across Ottawa. She previously served as Director of Gender and Race Equity, Inclusion, Indigenous Relations, and Social Development at the City of Ottawa, where she played a key role in shaping inclusive policies and programs. Suzanne brings more than a decade of leadership experience in health care and equity-focused initiatives, supported by an MBA in Health Care Management from the University of Saint Mary. She has also served on the Board Council of the College of Dietitians of Ontario
